Donald Trump has faced criticism from Joe Biden’s campaign team for sharing a video on social media featuring a truck displaying an image of the former president with his hands and feet tied up.
The Biden campaign accused Trump of consistently encouraging political violence leading up to the November election.
A spokesperson for Trump’s campaign countered by stating that Democrats have been advocating for violent actions against Trump.
Trump posted the video on his social media platform, Truth Social, on Friday. The footage was reportedly taken in Long Island, New York, during Trump’s attendance at the wake of a New York City police officer who died in a traffic stop.
The video depicts two trucks passing by, both adorned with American flags and flags expressing support for the police. The second truck displayed the words “Trump 2024” and featured an image of Biden with his hands and feet bound.
Trump’s sharing of the video prompted criticism from Biden’s campaign team. Spokesperson Michael Tyler remarked, “Trump is consistently inciting political violence, and it’s time for people to take him seriously.”
Steven Cheung, a spokesperson for Trump’s campaign, defended the video, stating, “That image was displayed on the back of a pickup truck traveling down the highway.” He accused Democrats and others of advocating violence against Trump and his family.
The exchange comes amid a series of contentious interactions between the two presidential candidates in the lead-up to the election.
