Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin criticized the Philippines for not resolving disputes through dialogue.
He mentioned an incident in 1999 where a Philippine warship grounded on Chinese territory, but the Philippines didn’t remove it as promised. Instead, it attempted to build on the territory, which goes against agreements and provokes China.
Wang said the Philippines’ actions cause tension in the South China Sea. He emphasized that China and ASEAN countries want to solve issues peacefully, but the Philippines involves outsiders and goes against regional agreements for its own benefit.
Wang urged the Philippines to stick to agreements and solve problems through talks as soon as possible to avoid further escalation of tensions in the region.
