The Central Ruet-i-Hilal Committee announced that Eidul Fitr would be celebrated on Wednesday, April 10, as the Shawwal moon was sighted. They made this announcement after a meeting in Islamabad. Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad chaired the meeting, which was attended by committee members and officials from various departments.
Maulana Azad mentioned that sightings of the moon were reported from many parts of the country, including Karachi, Dir, Faisalabad, and Skardu. He expressed congratulations to the nation and highlighted the unity achieved by celebrating Eid on the same day.
He emphasized the importance of unity for the country’s progress and praised the efforts of the armed forces in maintaining peace. He also mentioned that Pakistan would celebrate Eid along with many other countries.
The weather department mentioned the possibility of spotting the moon on the previous day, with expected partly cloudy or fair weather in most areas. The committee had asked citizens to report any moon sightings in their areas.
Maulana Azad stated that they had extensive discussions with clerics and religious groups across the country to ensure consensus. He mentioned efforts to address past disagreements and prevent the formation of private moon-sighting committees.
In the past, Eid was celebrated on different dates in various parts of the country due to differences in moon-sighting evidence and disagreements with the Central Ruet-i-Hilal committee’s decisions. Notably, in some instances, Eid was celebrated on different dates in North Waziristan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and the rest of the country.
