Heavy rainfall hit Balochistan on Friday, resulting in tragic consequences as two children lost their lives and another was injured. The Met Department, as reported by state-run Radio Pakistan, had predicted the downpour across various areas including Quetta, Pishin, Muslim Bagh, and Ziarat. Additionally, regions such as Zhob, Sherani, Barkhan, Musa Khel, Kohlu, Sibi, and Jhal Magsi were expected to experience heavy rainfall.
Thunderstorms, accompanied by intense showers, were forecasted for Chaman, Qila Abdullah, Qila Saifullah, Loralai, and Kalat. Furthermore, rainfall was anticipated in Turbat, Harnai, Nasirabad, Jaffarabad, Chagi, Panjgur, Gwadar, and Kech.
In Quetta, heavy rainfall caused flooding in low-lying areas, while a dust storm disrupted visibility in Kalat. Tragically, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) reported two children’s deaths due to a lightning strike in Sorab district.
The PDMA, in collaboration with district-level counterparts and allied departments, monitored the evolving weather conditions. Urging caution, the PDMA highlighted the forecasted rainfall until April 14, advising citizens to stay vigilant and avoid unnecessary travel. Precautionary measures included staying away from electrical poles, ensuring the safety of vulnerable groups, and refraining from venturing near deep waters or dams.
Moreover, citizens were urged to maintain clean stormwater drains, make provisions for livestock safety, and be prepared to contact relevant authorities in case of emergencies.
