On Friday, Ukrainian shelling attacks in Russian-occupied areas of the eastern Donetsk region resulted in the deaths of five individuals, as reported by authorities installed by Moscow.
Denis Pushilin, a top official appointed by Russia in the occupied Donetsk region, disclosed the casualties on social media, stating that three others sustained injuries in the attacks. The fatalities occurred in various villages across the region.
Pushilin specified that in the village of Staromykhailivka in the Kirov region of Donetsk, three individuals—a woman born in 1948, another born in 1988, and a man born in 1989—lost their lives. Additionally, a woman born in 1961 was killed in the village of Luganske, while another woman, born in 1963, met the same fate in the village of Aleksandrovka.
The shelling also inflicted damage on residential properties, with Pushilin indicating that 11 houses were affected in the Kirov district of Donetsk.
Ukraine and Russia have long been at odds over the conflict in eastern Ukraine, with each side trading accusations of aggression and targeting civilians. The Kremlin frequently accuses Kyiv of indiscriminate attacks on civilian populations, while Ukraine refutes these claims, asserting that its military operations target only military installations responsible for attacks on Ukrainian civilians.
The ongoing conflict, which has persisted for over two years, underscores the enduring tensions between Ukraine and Russia, posing significant humanitarian and security challenges for the region.
