RAWALPINDI: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir has expressed his heartfelt condolences on the tragic demise of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and other Iranian officials.

In a telephonic conversation with Major General Mohammad Bagheri, the Chief of General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces, General Munir conveyed his deep sorrow over the unfortunate helicopter crash that occurred on May 19. The crash resulted in the deaths of President Raisi, Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian, and several other high-ranking officials.

During the call, General Munir praised the late President and Foreign Minister, describing them as exceptional leaders and true friends of Pakistan. “The loss of these leaders is truly tragic and irreparable,” he remarked, according to a news release from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

The COAS extended his prayers for the departed souls and offered well wishes for the bereaved families on behalf of all ranks of the Pakistan Army. He emphasized the historic, cultural, and brotherly ties between Pakistan and Iran, noting that the armed forces of both countries have always supported each other.

In response, General Bagheri thanked General Munir for his condolences and assured him of the continued cooperation between the two militaries.

The tragic helicopter crash has left both nations mourning the loss of influential leaders who significantly contributed to strengthening the bond between Pakistan and Iran.
