The death toll from a Russian missile attack on the southern Ukrainian port city of Odesa has tragically climbed to five, according to regional authorities early Tuesday. The attack, carried out by Russia’s military on Monday afternoon, struck Odesa, situated on the Black Sea, causing devastation and injuring nearly two dozen people in the blast.
Oleg Kiper, the regional governor, conveyed the somber news on social media, stating, “Unfortunately, the number of victims in yesterday’s Russian missile attack on Odesa increased to five people.” He further elaborated that the death toll rose following the passing of a man at the hospital. Additionally, Kiper noted that 23 individuals wounded in Monday’s assault were still undergoing medical treatment.
“Eight are in serious condition, four of them in an extremely serious condition, including a four-year-old girl,” Kiper mentioned, emphasizing the severity of the injuries sustained. He commended the efforts of medical professionals, stating, “Our doctors are trying to do their best.”
In a separate incident, the head of the southern Kherson region reported that Russian shelling claimed the life of one person in the area over the past day.
The relentless bombardment of Ukrainian cities and critical infrastructure by Moscow’s forces has been ongoing for months. In recent weeks, Russian troops have intensified their offensive along the eastern frontline, purportedly capturing several towns in the process.
As the conflict escalates and civilian casualties mount, the international community continues to condemn Russia’s aggression and calls for an immediate cessation of hostilities to prevent further loss of life and suffering in Ukraine.
