A shooting incident in Kenner, Louisiana, left three police officers injured on Sunday, according to authorities. The suspect, identified as 31-year-old Matthew Lathers, was eventually shot and killed by a Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office sniper.

The incident unfolded around 9:45 a.m. when Kenner police responded to reports of a shooting outside a home. Two individuals sitting in a vehicle had been shot, believed to be either going to or coming from church, according to Kenner Police Capt. Michael Cunningham.

The victims led responding officers to the home where the gunfire originated, which was recognized as belonging to a family member of the suspect, Lathers. Lathers had an outstanding warrant for attempted murder and armed robbery earlier in the week.

A SWAT team arrived to execute a search warrant at the home, but upon entry, they encountered gunfire. Three officers were shot during the confrontation, and Lathers continued to shoot at deputies from the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office who arrived to assist.

Efforts to negotiate with Lathers were unsuccessful, leading to a sniper fatally shooting him. The injured officers have been released from the hospital, and the bystanders shot earlier in the day are in stable condition.
