The Islamabad High Court (IHC) decided to temporarily stop the 14-year prison sentences given to former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi in the Toshakhana case. They were accused of receiving gifts improperly.
They were also given other sentences in different cases. They were sentenced to seven years for marrying during a specific waiting period, and ten years for revealing state secrets.
Later, they faced another case for keeping jewelry from the Saudi crown prince at a lower value. They were accused of receiving many gifts during Imran’s time as Prime Minister.
The IHC agreed to hear their appeals and stopped their sentences temporarily. They asked if Imran agreed to use his home as a jail for Bushra Bibi.
In the recent hearing, their lawyer represented them, and the National Accountability Bureau’s prosecutor was also there.
During the trial, Imran and Bushra were asked to speak, but only Bushra did. Imran’s request to cross-examine the witnesses was denied.
After the verdict, Bushra went to jail as instructed, but later she was moved to their home, which was declared a jail. They denied requesting this.
Earlier, the jail authorities didn’t want to move her back to jail due to overcrowding.
