In a recent development, Hamas has released a video showing proof of life for two hostages held in Gaza, reigniting calls for their safe return. The hostages, Omri Miran and Keith Siegel, were captured during Hamas’s deadly attacks on October 7th.

The undated footage, filmed under duress, features Omri Miran stating he has been held captive for 202 days, while Keith Siegel references the recent Passover holiday, indicating the clips were recorded recently. Both men were abducted by armed individuals while traveling, with Siegel’s wife, Aviva, being released in November during a brief truce.

Responding to the video, the families of the hostages expressed determination to continue fighting for their loved ones’ return and urged the Israeli government to secure a new hostage release deal.

The release of the video coincides with reports of Hamas studying Israel’s latest proposal for a truce, with Egypt reportedly sending a delegation to Israel to revive stalled negotiations.

Keith Siegel’s wife, Aviva, delivered a heartfelt message in a video statement, expressing her love and commitment to her husband’s safe return. She detailed the harrowing experiences she and Keith endured during captivity, including being left in a tunnel by their captors.

Meanwhile, Keith’s daughters, Ilan and Shir, emphasized the urgency of reaching a deal to bring their father and all captives home. Ilan urged leaders to witness her father’s plea for help, while Shir highlighted the family’s ongoing advocacy efforts.

In Tel Aviv, demonstrators gathered at a weekly protest demanding action for the release of the hostages. Omri Miran’s father, Dani Miran, delivered a passionate speech urging the government, specifically mentioning far-right members, to secure a hostage deal. He pleaded with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to approve any viable agreement, emphasizing the desire to end the suffering of the hostages and their families.

The airing of the hostage video at the demonstration marked a notable departure from standard practice, reflecting the urgency and gravity of the situation.

The Hostages Families Forum Headquarters issued a statement, emphasizing the urgency of approving a deal for the return of all hostages, following the latest video release.

Efforts to negotiate the hostages’ release have been ongoing, with indirect talks between Israel and Hamas thus far failing to yield an agreement. Hamas has previously rejected proposals for a ceasefire, insisting on permanent resolutions to the conflict.

Despite the diplomatic efforts, Israel appears to be preparing for a military offensive in Rafah, southern Gaza. Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz expressed hope for a diplomatic resolution but affirmed preparations for the operation if necessary.

The conflict between Israel and Hamas has resulted in significant casualties and humanitarian consequences, underscoring the critical need for a swift and peaceful resolution to ensure the safety of all involved.
