Novak Djokovic, the world’s number one tennis player, has ended his coaching partnership with Goran Ivanisevic, a former Wimbledon champion.
Ivanisevic started coaching Djokovic in March 2022, working alongside Djokovic’s long-time mentor Marian Vajda since 2018.
Djokovic, a Serbian player with 24 Grand Slam singles titles, including a joint-record, had a rough start to 2024. He lost in the semi-finals of the Australian Open in January, then suffered a surprise defeat in the third round at Indian Wells, and withdrew from the ongoing Miami Open.
On Instagram, Djokovic announced the split, mentioning that while they had ups and downs on the court, their friendship remained strong.
Djokovic recalled inviting Ivanisevic to join his team in 2018 to bring some serve magic. Since then, they’ve shared laughter, fun, and many victories, including 12 Grand Slam titles.
Ivanisevic was nominated for ATP Coach of the Year in 2023, and together they achieved significant success.
Djokovic, who shares the record for Grand Slam singles titles with Margaret Court, is preparing for the upcoming French Open, which starts on May 26th.
