Washuk, Balochistan – A devastating bus accident in Washuk, Balochistan, claimed the lives of at least 28 people and left 22 others injured early Wednesday morning. The incident occurred when a bus traveling from Turbat to Quetta plunged into a ravine after a tire burst, according to Basima Assistant Commissioner (AC) Ismail Mengal.
Among the deceased are three women and three children. The bus, carrying between 45 and 50 passengers, was traveling at night and the accident occurred around 5 a.m. AC Mengal expressed concerns that the death toll could rise, as some of the injured are in critical condition.
Rescue efforts faced challenges due to the remote location of the accident, which lacked mobile network coverage and nearby population. This caused a delay in Levies officials receiving information about the incident. However, rescue teams were dispatched immediately upon receiving the news.
The injured were initially taken to Basima Civil Hospital, where 22 more individuals succumbed to their injuries. Nine critically injured passengers have been transferred to Combined Military Hospital (CMH) Khuzdar. The Pakistan army has been requested to airlift four other critically injured passengers to Quetta for treatment at a trauma center. The remaining 17 injured are receiving medical care in Washuk hospitals.
Identification of the deceased is ongoing, with most victims yet to be identified. Bodies have been transferred to the hospital, and Gwadar administration officials are assisting with the identification process.
Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti expressed deep sorrow over the tragic loss of lives and extended his condolences to the families of the deceased. He directed that the best possible medical facilities be provided to the injured and prayed for their swift recovery.
